If someone were to ask me, when is the best time to be alive? I would say right now. The time of the digital world has no boundaries. We are limited to nothing. We have all the necessary resources at our finger tips. We have high speed internet, smartphones, and tablets to cater our everyday needs. We have social sites like Twitter and Facebook to give us the most up to date news with live and raw uncut footage. Finding out what is happening during a natural disaster or this years presidential election can be seen by hundreds of outlets, through social trends and hashtags. We can be the outlet needed just by hitting record on our Apple or Android devices.
The articles spoke about the pro’s and cons of social media, but the pro’s by far outweigh the cons. Sure posting up pictures to your Instagram about late night drunken festivities might not be the best thing to display publicly. But that’s your choice to gain immediate attention and not caring about future consequences. We are all challenged every day to do the right or wrong thing, how you’re using social media is no different.
The ice bucket challenge was a great idea to spread awareness about motor-neurone disease, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. Even though it might be more known as a social trend by kids, challenges like these can definitely help non profit organizations and charities spread awareness with limited budget resources.
Social media is a gold mine, how it’s used comes down to the people. It can lead to a movement or a regretful post that has 25 likes. Either way you look at it, it’ll leave an impact one way or another.
