Social media platforms, offer a variety of personalization tools, which can attract users to customizing their profile however they choose. This article “How the technological Design of Facebook Homogenizes Identity and Limits Personal Representation” extracts the potential things people can go through when participating investing time in Facebook. Mentally social media can influence you in many different kinds of ways. It was once said by an anonymous author that you are the company you keep.” This quote relates to this social media platform because as a user you are able to add many friends and follow whom ever you choose due to interest. With interest, a person can either attempt to go for a look they hope to look like or become more informed towards a certain feeling they hope to feel. Access to the Internet greatly alters your state of mind. It was said in the article that people often develop a multi personality through the creation of their social media accounts. Through a subconscious click, a person can slowly turn into a certain person online and in person be the complete opposite. This kind of reminds me of the show Cat Fish on MTV with director Neiv, in where people online date and when they meet for the first time they appear to be completely different on how they learned online of how each other was to be. It is unfortunate that the Internet and social media platforms like Facebook can do that to a person. It is also unfortunate that we have a lot of people around the world that are insecure about them and are not able to create real personal relationships with people. People are social animals in where to keep a sane state of mind, they need to speak to someone.
