How does marketing shift in the digital world?

Marketing has shifted in many ways for years. The most recent shift is digital marketing. Digital marketing can range from social media to videos and songs. Although many of these may attempt at expanding their business, and/or product, some may fail and some may rise. Digital marketing doesn’t happen over night. To actually get a product to sell takes time, patience, and hard work. Digital marketing isn’t just about what your selling; it’s about how your selling it. How will you be drawing in consumers? Anyone can just throw one of their songs on Facebook, but then what happens if it doesn’t go viral? You send it to your friend; your friend forwards it to their friend; that friend forwards it to their friend and so forth and so on. What happens after that? Let me answer that for you: NOTHING happens! In order to get your product out their, or known, you have to come up with a strategy or some sort of marketing plan. According to an article titled “Why the Future of Digital Marketing is PR” by Gerald Heneghan, “Content creation is one of the key struggles for businesses branching out into the world of digital”.

A business doesn’t just exceed over night. According to “Viral Marketing for the Real World” by Duncan Watts and Jonah Peretti,
“Pick some small number of people to seed your idea, product or message; get it to go viral”. You have to start off at the bottom in order to make it to the top. For example, you can place the product your selling on a billboard or on a TV ad. This is just a starting point for your product to be broadcast and out in the open. The next step is for you, as the seller, to make sure that you product is delivered to the public.

Lastly, we have all got to learn to work together positively and collectively. “Working with people outside of your usual industry can help you create a buzz for both of your companies” (“5 Key Viral Marketing Tactics Proven to Work). Ever heard of that saying, I know somebody who knows somebody? In the marketing field, this quote should be used a lot in order for a product to be sold. Now,go out there and get to work!

Marketing in the Digital World

Marketing has shift drastically in the digital world. There is no reason to think that we do not live in a digital world and both young children and adults are using the digital platforms for pleasure and also to get their work and ideas oit there. A lot of the marketing strategies that are used by companies or even entrepreneurs have a connection with the digital world. The article talks about the platform of Twitter where companies use it to promote their events and indistry vonferences. Twitter is also used write interesting sayings to grab the attention of a lot of viewers. One example of someone using twitter as its main platform is the guy behing the Dear White People twitter page where je writes comments that African Americans would like to say to white people but in a veey humored manor. This grabbed the attention of many people especially African Americans and it became such a successful creation that Dear White People is actually a series on Netflix. Twitter is not the only platform companies are putting focus on. Brands are using location data to get to the consumer at a faster rate. Mastercard is using this comcept in order to foster inovation. That way they are able to see and listen to whatever it is being said about the company on real time. Using digital platforms on real time is what marketers are focusing more on lately because it opens a gateway to see the process of when the product goes to the consumer, the reaction of the consumer when receiving the product and ultimately get the feed back of the sale from the consumer.

Social Media and the Internet

What does it really mean to be social today? There’s no real answer to this but for most it means being connected through social media sites in this digital age. In most “social” gatherings in 2016 you’ll find a group of individuals who usually share common interests, but can’t seem to put their phones down to be social at that moment. Most people are connected to multiple social media sites like Facebook, Instagram and twitter. In the article titled “How Social Media Has Changed Us: The Good and The Bad””, it breaks down all the pros and cons that social media brings to modern day people. According to the article, the good that social media brings is immediate access to information, pervasive connectivity to Others, globalized voices. The cons, according to the article, are selfies, political tirades, anonymity of the web and the amplification of ignorance. Through social media a person can become whoever they want by creation of desirable profile. Also, the internet always keeps record of every and anything we post so we must always be mindful of what we post and our online “friends”. In the New York Times article titled “The Web Means the End of Forgetting”, we learn the story of Stacy Snyder, then a 25-year-old teacher in training at Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, Pa. who lost her job over an inappropriate photo posted on Myspace. After discovering the page, her supervisor at the high school told her the photo was “unprofessional,” and the dean of Millersville University School of Education, where Snyder was enrolled, said she was promoting drinking in virtual view of her under-age students. According to a recent survey by Microsoft, 75 percent of U.S. recruiters and human-resource professionals report that their companies require them to do online research about candidates, and many use a range of sites when scrutinizing applicants — including search engines, social-networking sites, photo- and video-sharing sites, personal Web sites and blogs, Twitter and online-gaming sites.

How does marketing Shift in the digital world?

Many marketers especially the larger company  tend  to separate  digital marketing  from marketing.

when a company or an organization  is planning a marketing strategy  they must first look outside the box,

in order to have a successful marketing pitch. In order to  for the change to happen, we must recognize

the marketing  groups that match what is going on  at a certain  level.According to the reading article on”How

Viral marketing  campaigns fail” it is best that a  company team up with unlikely  partners  to create a bigger buzz for their company. Viral marketing has been in existence  for a long time, however, if a company does not have a strong strategic plan as to what audience they are trying to attract the marketing maybe a bit weak and there would be minimal,  success or no  success  at all for that company.

New Threats To our P

Social media has prevented us from maintaining our privacy without us even realizing it. I agree with what the article stated about how social media can allow others to obtain our private information within seconds and we should definitely be more cautious as to what we put out there for the world to see. I am pretty sure the goverment uses a lot of these social media platforms to obtain information from us for their own benefit. In a way it is beneficial because they can target those who are a threat to this country and to other countries as well such as terrorist. On another hand, it has made our information less private and who knows what the government has done with the information that we place on these platforms. One example is one of the most popular platforms out there is Facebook. This specific platform asks us a series of questions that we should not be answeing publicly or on the website itself. Some of the questions that are asked is what high school did you go to or what is your phone number and even gender. This information can be used against us and can be used to harm us from those who hack into other people’s information. Also, Facebook has a feature now that plays videos live all around the world. On one hand, this method may allow other people from all over the world become more connected but on other cases it can be used to add negative content such as pornography or abusive actions towards others. In conclusion, although the media has opened up a platform for us to become more connected with others, it can also cause danger to our pricacy.

The internet and Social media

Reading the first article it is very true and sad that everything that we put on social media can be found and used against you. With the internet you can find anybody’s twitter account or Facebook or even twitter. It takes away our privacy but the internet and social media are public sites. The only thing that is private would be direct messaging through these sites. The first article mentions how “Technological advances, of course, have often presented new threats to privacy’. Personally I don’t post anything on social media that I wouldn’t the world to see. Any opinion on twitter or snapchat is something I choose to post and it is not degrading anybody or anything. You must treat social media like anybody can see what you are posting. Some people don’t care and will post whatever they want on social media and get insulted by other people. I have never posted anything that has got me in trouble. I always post things about my life but not everything. The third article talks about the good and the bad about social media. I agree with the first point of the good. You can get easier access to things around the world through social media. Now we get information and news a lot quicker. The connection to people is better. Now you can communicate with people a lot easier and more often through social media. I think the one bad thing about social media is that everybody has an opinion. It’s good that we all use our voices but I wish people would know more about certain topics before they make an opinion about it. That disappoints me personally because I always like to do my own research about something before I state my opinion about it.

The Internet and Social Media

How has social media effected us as a society? Is this positive or negative?

Today I will mainly talk about the negative aspect of how social media has effected us as a society and here I would like to talk mainly about Facebook. As Ben Grosser said “The most popular network space for personal representation is Facebook!
the world’s largest online social network. The site has more than 500 million active
users and has become the most visited website in the United States.
Despite the fact that social media has some positive points, like the fact that you can stay in touch with many people that you have met in your life even if they are far away or you can follow many things (like music group, newspaper) on a same page and spend some good times.

But the bad side of the reality of social media is linked to the lack of privacy. Nowadays everyone is sharing pictures, people they have met, their opinion, their religion etc.
With all these informations posted on facebook, it represent a huge database for marketing company or any other organization.
It’s terrifying because all photos and videos that we have posted on facebook belong to facebook as we have accepted the terms and conditions.
My big brother came from France 2 weeks ago and they stopped it at the airport. When he was talking with the customs officer, they asked him his facebook and they try to find some suspicious informations. What I want to say about that is that is not a bad thing that these customs officer asked him his facebook but it’s the fact that they know that there is so much information on these kind of social media that they could find something.
And the fact that everything is on Internet (if you post it of course) can be against you.
People can be depressed because of some pictures on facebook. It exist some case were people have commited suicid.
We have a good example from the article of Jeffrey Rosen In the “The Web Means the End of Forgetting”, with the case of Stacy Snyder who was about to do not receive his degree because of a picture.

Also social media has negative impact on hapiness because a studied has proven that people are jealous of the life of their friends on Facebook.
Anyway we can’t cover everything in one post but I wanted to say that the lack of privacy is the main problem.
A phrase resume everything in the article of jeffrey Rosen is “how best to live our lives in a world where the Internet records everything and forgets nothing”

Social Media: Never Forget

The article that struck me most this week was the first NY Times article about social media and “the end of forgetting.” This piece includes a well known anecdote about a teacher in training who was denied a teaching degree towards the end of her studies due to a single Facebook photo of her drinking after hours. Of course it should be expected for public servants, leaders and celebrities to be scrutinized on the internet. Because the content on the internet lives forever, sentiments from these “important” people live forever and should come back to bite them, should they say something offensive or invalid. This year’s presidential election is a never ending reminder of this, as Republican candidate Donald Trump is a walking scandal waiting to be uncovered. Hopefully in election years to come, it won’t take a year (or longer) of campaigning for reporters and interested civilians to peruse databases and expose politicians who have made sexist statements or lied about various topics. It is up to news organizations, social media sites like Twitter and other valuable media resources to compile their data in a more organized fashion and allow people to search with more ease.

The Times article also discusses the implication exposing individuals through social media who are otherwise normal people. A quote from a woman living in New York really struck me. She said, “You have movie-star issues, and you’re just a person.” This couldn’t be more true, as we’re seeing a creepy ubiquitous culture of “Facebook stalking” or “Instagram stalking” and, as mentioned earlier, employers preying on profiles to judge their staffs. The internet and social media is still very much the wild wild west, the best thing to do is be careful and not posting anything you may regret in the future.

The effects of social media

Social media has been the main shift in society in the past decade or so. Social media was originally created as a new platform for people to connect with each other. Now, social media has taken over everybody’s lives because of the power it’s been given.
I agree with a point made in the first article that people now have to learn how to live their lives without letting their posts and uploaded photos destroy them. People will dig up old posts just to tear someone down years later. Others will be the victims of screenshotting, resulting in their post or photo being shared and scrutinized by thousands of strangers. Social media has blown up cyberbullying into what it is today because of the many different platforms that give people chances to judge and criticize.
Social media has become all anybody can think about. If something interesting is happening, the first thing people do is take out their phones and record a Snapchat or Instagram video. If posts don’t get enough likes, people will delete it and consider that memory a failure. There are also people who have the job title ‘Social media personality.’ This is because people have started getting paid for posting engineered photos or posts to promote something, resulting in a big paycheck.
Like the third article stated, social media does have some positive effects. It’s become much easier for businesses to reach their consumers. Many businesses have accommodated their customers because of trends that started on Twitter. Other small businesses have gotten more attention in a short amount of time because of the ability to share and go viral. The main positive effect has actually only come to fruition recently. People have open the eyes of others by sharing and posting about the issues in the world that major media outlets ignore. Movements like Black Lives Matter and the popularity of Bernie Sanders wouldn’t have existed without the power of social media.
Social media has invited strangers into each other’s lives. People post about everything that happens to them throughout a normal day. They open doors for people to comment and attack them for posting about mundane activities or random selfies.
Social media runs the world nowadays. Illusions of an amazing life are being created and other lives are being destroyed because of single posts. There are millions and millions of people who fall victim to having accounts on every major social media outlet and worrying about being popular on all of them. On the other hand, major social issues are being addressed because of sites like Facebook and Twitter.
Social media is now a permanent fixture in our culture. The latest person impacted by social media will be in the news in a few minutes and everybody will comment or share but do nothing to prevent it from happening again.

How has social media affected us as a society?

Social media can be very positive and negative depending on how people use it. I use to be on social media all the time, and I never seen time fly by so fast. You get so consumed into it, you lose track of what you’re suppose to do and don’t know where your day has went. But besides the mind control it can have on you, the positive about  social media is everything is so much easier to access. Anything you need to know, want to be up to date with or need to reasearch is literally at the palms of your hands. New is everywhere and even newspapers have an app with Apple that lets you subscribe to whichever new paper you read and send you updates. Tommy Landry states he uses Twitter to get news due to it’s immediate access to other sources. Social media is like the extra information/ more detailed version of the news that newspapers choice to cut out of their stories.

Social media is also good for small businesses, “a company had to pony up thousands or even millions of dollars to be heard in most cases.” But now social media gives “mom and pop” shops a voice, to portray their visions to everyone, without needing millions todo so. It also gives you connectivity with people worldwide, which allows people  to communicate with each other on topics, ideas, give advice and share images. It’s a good source of networking,so people can get noticed for their talents or their companies.

The negative about social media is the hate, negative energy gets put out there with mean comments. People also pro try them selfs as something their not. “All talk, no action.” People use social media to hide who they are.

Jobs also use social media as a way to check your background… even things from your past. Which is unfair, cause people change, they grow. I’m sure most people can say they’re not the same person completely a couple years ago.   And isn’t it unfair to be judged when you’re not in a work environment?
