In my opinion cable television’s life time is coming to end, reason is the digital generation is all about getting content efficiently and cost effectively. Individuals in the age group of 21 to 35 are not willing to pay near $250 monthly on cable television for channels they don’t even watch. It is all about apps and low monthly subscription, like Netflix who currently has approximately 75 million subscribers for just $8 a month. And gives it’s customers access to hundreds of movies and TV shows at anytime they please. most TV channels now do too, have their own apps prompting the customers to enter their cable provider credentials but that will all soon be done with. I would give an estimation that cable television will still be around for 10 more years, because the older folks are not going to switch over to a whole new method of watch television. Some still like the fact that they can surf through channels, they don’t mind commercials because it is what they know.

My personal opinion is that television service apps are more convenient than actually catching scheduled episodes. With just an user name and password to your wireless internet provider, which is the same as you login for Wi-Fi with most services; giving access to streaming scheduled programming and the opportunity to view missed shows, full season, series, and more is now accessible by the “tap” of a button, as well as available on any mobile device ( via Tablet, cellular phone, and or television through on demand ). I do agree with Myers statement on app based TV programming systems biggest flaw. In order to actually stream view episodes series in full seasons. You would have to go through certain steps in order to view the content. Having a Wi-Fi or wireless internet service is the number one key to being connected to the app, a few of the network that provide the service is a network such as Time Warner or Optimum. Televisions scheduled programming has been changing economically, it’s accessibility is becoming more broad, and there are new forms of programming model such as Netflix, Hulu, and more. When I began this post I had made a statement; basically predicting the future of cable service. Greg Satell confirm my prediction when saying “That doesn’t mean the cable companies themselves are dead. They still have valuable infrastructure and have begun to offer new services like home security. However, the cable business, as we have come to know it, will soon be a thing of the past.”. In the world we live in everything is based off a supply nd demand system, and the demand for cable services is lowering when their a more afforadle anc convient options open to the public. I spend $300 dollar on a cable bill each month when you can spend $20 on wifi and stream the shows throught the channel app.

Is TV all about apps?
TV is slowly transitioning to app based technology. Soon what we know as Television will soon just be in smart tvs, tablets and phones. Movie channels such as HBO and Showtime now have their own apps so you can stream movies on you devices, of course… you need one of the cable companies to sign in, but how long do you think that’ll last? Soon these channels will be free from cable providers, as HBO already launched HBO Now, all their viewers and subscribers revenue will now just be for them. This concept will eventually be for many other channels, and the use for a cable provider will be irrelevant in due time.
Gary Myer’s article goes against this though… saying “we need our channels in one place.” It really can’t be that hard to keep track of what shows you watch and what app it’s on. Are people really that lazy?

How Has The Music Industry Changed?
The music industry has changed drastically in the last couple of years and its all thanks to the advancement of the media. Many artist are not able to make the great amount of money they used to make before because it is so easy for the public to get access to the music without paying for it. Before, the public only had the chance to buy a whole entire album but now with the helo of Apple, we can now buy the songs we choose to listen to. Apple also boughy Beats music for a couple of billion dollars which have allowed the public to listen to a lot of new music for the price of $10 a month. With apple creating Apple Music we no longer have to download music through illegal applications or have to spend a dollar and some change on every single song we want to listen to. Although Apple music is more beneficial to the public, artist are actually losing money because they are not getting a good pay for their music being out there. Taylot Swift actually tweeted to Apple stating that the public should not be getting the first three months of subscription for free as that was hurting up and coming new artist. Apple listened to Taylor and is now not allowing for people to obtain the first three months free. I think Artist are not as well respected as they once were. Now you don’t even need a record label in order to put your music out there and although it is beneficial for many talented artist out there it is lowering the worth of those artist who were used to getting payed a great amount of money for their work. Artist now have to work so much harder to get payed well and get what they deserve as talented individuals.

Weird Time for TV
Right now is a weird time for television/film. We are in a transitionary period in which there are many people hanging onto cable cords, spending hundreds or thousands more than they should for television per year, and those who are streaming (legally and illegally) paying very little and lacking access to as much content. The issue right now lays within the television/film industry, and how they will continue to remain profitable (this has little to do with huge studios and more with the artists) and cater to the general public in an age where many people don’t want to pay for anything intangible. After all, television and film are embedded into our society;the major corporations who supply us with a majority of this content are responsible to please us.
Clearly, cable is a ripoff and does not include much of the amazing back catalogue provided by streaming services and network-specific apps like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and HBO GO. However, the operating systems that carry these apps are not user friendly. As WIRED points out, users of SMART devices “shouldn’t have to know whether [a show] is carried by a USA, CBS or HBO app.” There needs to be a greater centralization of networks, shows and films on smart devices. One exception that comes to mind is the new Apple TV, which has Siri built in and can search across the iTunes Store and App Store apps for any show, movie, actor or genre Siri can recognize from your voice.

Is Tv All About Apps?
Do I truly believe that cable is coming to its ends or will even exist within the next few years? That’s a very good question. Just as every other aspect in our lives and the things we utilize daily; there are major improvements, upgrades and more and more things to make us quote on quote lazier but in my opinion it just became more convenient and also considerate to our pockets. For example, cable is very expensive and with being Americans and living in the state of New York, you’d be lucky if you had the chance to sit down and actually watch TV on your own time with no interruptions, that is almost impossible now. In “The Future Of TV Is Here. Can Cable Survive?” article Greg Satell states “Every major manufacturer now offers “smart TV’s” that can access the Internet directly and a host of streaming devices, such as Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV, just to name a few, transform any set into what’s effectively a very large tablet computer.” Now this is where apps come in, you missed the latest episode of a show like Empire because you had to work late or you’re coming home late from school? No problem, the next day on your way to any of these places all you have to do is open up the Hulu Plus app or any other convenient app that you subscribe to and watch the latest episode right off your smartphone, tablet or iPad. But even if you don’t have your own streaming subscription, one of your generous friends does and normally they have no issues in giving you their account information so you can watch your favorite movies or shows. So maybe I’m leaning more on the yes TV will eventually be all about apps but I do believe cable subscriptions will still exist, why? Well because when it comes to TV networks such as BET, VH1 or even MTV, you can no longer go on their website to watch a show for free without having a cable subscription that has a package that includes these networks. So I have no sympathy for cable services losing their customers to streaming network apps because for one major reason they’re way cheaper than cable packages! Moreover, clearly cable companies have some sort of business agreement with these TV stations if we can watch a show on their site without a cable subscription. So Hulu, Amazon Fire, Netflix etc. is clearly the way to go.

Is TV all about Apps?
Most people watch television through a cable provider. There are plenty of providers; we have Verizon, DIRECTV, Optimum and dish to name a few. They provide News channels, Sports channels, entertainment channels ad many more. In the article “The Future of TV is here. Can Cable Survive?” Greg Satell is correct when he says, “As for the TV appliance itself, it is also being transformed. Every major manufacturer now offers “smart TV’s” that can access the Internet directly and a host of streaming devices, such as Roku, Amazon Fire and Apple TV just to name a few, transform any set into what’s effectively a very large tablet computer. “ I believe that in the future TV will be all about apps through the companies that provide the cable. I agree with Gary Myer in the article “The Future of TV Isn’t Apps. We Need All Our Channels in One Place” when he says, “There is no continuity or common functionality among and between these apps. As the name “app” indicates, they are each stand-alone applications that have their own functionality–like opening Word or Excel on a computer.” But I do believe that is going to change when it comes from the cable providers themselves and not just a “Smart TV” special. With the technology we are able to have in today’s society I don’t believe it’s unimaginable. Some people are not able to afford the prices of cable and choose to use these Apps to receive their TV fix for a decent price. Cable companies are losing out because they do not offer cheaper plans for premium channels like HBO and STARZ. These channels offer Apps where you can either enter your cable provider if you have those channels through them or pay monthly to watch. I believe if cable providers offered an option to access those apps through the cable system without having to use your actual TV and exiting the cable I believe they would make a lot of money before the world turns away from cable because it is cheaper to just use your tablet and buy apps that offer you the same shows.

How has the music industry changed with digital media?
The music industry definitely has changed with digital media. How music is heard is completely different, for one, CD players are forever gone, now added to histories artifacts in the museums. People don’t even need to buy music anymore, albums are soon going away and buying individual songs is slowly following behind it. Streaming music has become convenient to people, especially after Apple created their own streaming service, ” Apple Music.” How easy is it that not only do you get a iPhone, but you get streaming service already built into the phone; of course for a price to subscribe.
My thoughts… we are technically spending more money subscribing then actually buying the songs you listen to. For one person to subscribe to apple music is $9.99, $10. If you went on iTunes that’ll be 10 songs a month that you would be able to get and keep forever. 10 songs per month, you’d have 120 songs in a year. And how much music do you really listen to? People have thousands of songs on their iPods/phones and listen to less than half of those songs. Streaming may work for some people.. not all.
How artist get paid has also changed with how music is heard, music artist has lost control on how music is heard and lose a lot of money for this streaming service everyone loves. They pay artist cents for streaming music, when they could be making more actually selling songs and albums. Artist lack control and ownership of their music, which is exactly why Jay-Z bought Tidal.

The Music Industry & Digital Media Uprise
The Music Industry on a whole has changed drastically with the up rise and takeover of Digital Media. No longer are people really listening and depending on music from sources such as terrestrial radio and CD’s but, no in this modern day and age people are depending heavily on streaming services to get their music. Streaming has completely taken over with services such as Spotify, Pandora, Google Play, RDIO, Tidal, and Apple Music. Digital Media allows music listener to stream music from their electronic devices unlimited and as they please. The content delivery system is much easier all you have to do is search for tour favorite artist and you can have access to all of their music right at the palm of your hands. No longer do you have to download music from illegitimate websites such as limewire, music skull, etc.

How is Digital Media changing the music industry?
In both articles The New York Times Online, “Apple to Pay $3 Billion to Buy Beats” by Brian X. Chen, “Apple Music may not steal you from Spotify, but it can still win the streaming battle” by Jacob Kastrenakes they assert that more and more we’re seeing that Apple is playing a significant role in digital media and how their company is affecting the music industry. When Dr Dre first sold Beats I was shocked and couldn’t believe he would sell, but I don’t blame him for the amount that he received in return.
Whoever is behind Apple is soooo savvy and smart for has creating a streaming service that charges us for music !! Lol. Apple think they slick!!!! On my phone , I have Pandora and IHeartRadio but Apple Music is better because I can save songs on my device for playback at a later time. where users can stream music. Another point is that no one is taking the time to actually buy albums anymore. Everyone is into downloading and streaming which I think makes it hard for artists to actually make good profits off of album sales in store. It has its pros and cons.
