Is TV all about apps?

TV is slowly transitioning to app based technology. Soon what we know as Television will soon just be in smart tvs, tablets and phones. Movie channels such as HBO and Showtime now have their own apps so you can stream movies on you devices, of course… you need one of the cable companies to sign in, but how long do you think that’ll last? Soon these channels will be free from cable providers, as HBO already launched HBO Now, all their viewers and subscribers revenue will now just be for them. This concept will eventually be for many other channels, and the use for a cable provider will be irrelevant in due time.

Gary Myer’s article goes against this though… saying “we need our channels in one place.” It really can’t be that hard to keep track of what shows you watch and what app it’s on. Are people really that lazy?
