WHOA! I must say this is an interesting topic that I truly believe can be based straight off of an option and not even involve any sources. Mainly because most, if not all of us lived through the transition of music. In my opinion music began its transition when Apple came out with iPods. Of course we had iTunes, but we also had music websites that let us download the music for free not to mention some of these sites gave us viruses but we happened to still continue being loyal to these sites just so we wouldn’t have to pay for the music. Before Apple, one of the main sources for downloading free music was Limewire. EVERYONE knew what Limewire was until and even after the site was shut down because downloading music for free is illegal. So with all of that being said and done, the artist and song writers are losing money, nobody even buys albums anymore. According to the article Music Streaming Demands New Wave of Licensing Rules since music has started streaming, song writers aren’t getting paid fairly. Their basically getting chump change for songs that are popular because of the government. Which I must say I am not surprised about but if the artist songs are at the top of the charts, shouldn’t the song writer get almost as much money as the artist being that they’re the ones who wrote the hit song? Every business has its scams, in this case it’s the artist and writers losing money due to streaming and the song writers losing a large amount of money because of it. So maybe it has gotten to the point where the artist is only looking out for their own income, I wouldn’t be surprised because us Americans are selfish. They also stated that Jay-Z bought out streaming service Tidal because he’s fed up with the lack of control artist have over the music business. Maybe that’s why some artist release things only on Tidal and no other site for us to maybe pay for the release. But who really knows?
