The affects that social media has on society has always been a very debatable topic. Reason being, like most debatable situations, there is always a party who are pro, one that’s con and another that plays natural or just agree with certain parts from both sides. I am one of the individuals who believe that the effects of social media have both positive and negative aspects. For example, since most things in our time now, has resolved into our electronic devices, it also causes us to be a part of social media (obviously). I have a lot of friends who don’t watch the new at all but are extremely caught up with current events because of social networks such as Facebook being the primary source, Instagram and even Snapchat’s “discover” section within the application. Which is why I believe this can be a positive aspect to the effects of social media because it keeps its users up to date. Now as far as the negative side of social media, it has a lot bullying that is performed by ordinary individuals, even bloggers when their speaking about a celebrity in a negative way. We also have little annoying things like a new movie that comes out and someone we follow on twitter goes to see it and then starts tweeting about the movie and ruins it for us who was looking forward to seeing it. I also feel like social media is part of the reason that our phones are always in our hand. Some of us don’t even have the respect to even put our phone away when we’re holding an in person conversation. Instead we’re constantly looking at our phone and the person we’re conversing with at the same time to give them both the same amount of attention which is so crazy. According to what Tommy Landry stated in his article, How Social Media Has Changed Us: The Good and The Bad; there is a generation of kids coming up who can’t even conceive of a world without smart phones and social networking. It has officially embedded itself in our culture. Insane right? We can’t even hold a simple conversation without picking up our phones at least one time.
