“A Piece of Pii”

Throughout the age of cell phones, we came a long way. We have transitioned from using the Beeper to the Flip phone. From the Flip phone, we have entered into the World of Touchscreen. I know everyone is familiar with, or somewhat familiar with, IPhones and Galaxy’s. The truth of the matter is both of these phones are taking over the world! I mean that literally. There’s not a day that goes by when I don’t see someone holding one of them in the palm of their hand. What if there was a way where both of these phones came together and created one phone? Ladies and gentlemen, I am proudly to introduce to you the next big thing called Pii.

When I was in the twelfth grade about to graduate from high school, I wanted an IPhone 4 so badly. I just had to have one! When I opened up my present on graduation day, I just couldn’t believe my eyes: There it was, my IPhone. It’s like it was just sitting there waiting for me. When I finally took it out the box, it felt like I was holding a piece of gold. I have and always will be an IPhone user.

Let me discuss the importance of apps. According to Apple.com, “Apps created with ResearchKit are already producing medical insights and discoveries at a pace and scale never seen before. That success has inspired us to widen the scope for medical research to personal care with the introduction of CareKit— a framework for developers to build apps that let you manage your own well-being on a daily-basis”. Not only is it an app, but it is an app that can help you lead a better and healthier life. Who wouldn’t want an app that can give you beneficial information on your health? This is why I like my IPhone, because it gives your insight on your own wellbeing. Apps, along with other features, gives you access to information.

In my father’s case, he’s more of a Galaxy user. I do like the features of a Galaxy, but there’s just something about IPhones that just seems to keep me intrigued. For example, my dad likes the fact that you can download apps such as Showbox, which is something you can’t do on an IPhone. Showbox is an app where you can download movies and TV shows on and watch them. It’s just less restrictions with Galaxy’s than with IPhones. IPhones seem to target a younger crowd, whereas Galaxy’s seems to target for of an older crowd. I just wish there were a way where both IPhones and Galaxy’s to come together and create a phone with even more features. This is where Pii comes into play.

Pii is a phone that has a certain microchip in it. The microchip carries the same features as both an IPhone and Galaxy combined. It is the size of a disposable camera; it has 300 megabytes; it can range from $700-$900 (depending on the company you purchased it from); it comes in different flavors (blueberry, cherry, cream, and more).

All this talk about which one is better is driving me insane! Both IPhones and Galaxy’s are considered to be Smartphones. According to Forbes.com, “Android people are more hard-core techies: they work in more technical jobs and are more comfortable with the more open but less polished Android user experience”. In that article it also states, “IPhone people are tech enthusiasts, but more as consumers than producers: a big over-weight for digital device addiction, but none for technical jobs”. As you can see, there’s no such thing as one being better than the other. It’s just everyone uses their phone for different purposes. What do you use your phone for?

My target audience would be teenagers ranging from 14-19 years old. The secondary audience would range from 21-30 years old. The tertiary audience ranges from 30-45 years old. For the teenage group, I would use tactics such as social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. For the secondary group, I would use LinkedIn and Facebook. Lastly, for my tertiary audience, I would keep it simpler and create ads in Magazines (such as Vibe, Essence) and Newspapers (such as Daily Post, NY Times). The reason I categorized it like this is because I did it based on what I feel everyone uses and who seems to prefer some social platforms over others.

Now, let’s take a look at the big picture: gaining interest in the public eye for my idea. I will broadcast my idea by having it advertised on billboards and on commercials. I will have it set up in a way where my invention captures the idea for people all across the globe to see it. It’ll travel from New York to other state and then it’ll go all around the country. Both IPhones and Galaxy’s stick to their name and I see why they fall under the same spectrum as Smartphones. “By 2017, over a third of the world’s population is projected to own a smartphone, an estimated total of almost 2.6 billion smartphone users in the world” (statista.com). With Pii coming into play, the statistics of those numbers are going to increase.

The main billboard will be located on Times Square- 42nd Street. The point being is because it’s a local area and it can attract tourist. I want the billboard to have bright red, green, and white lights (because Christmas is right around the corner). I want it to have a picture of Beyoncé holding up the Pii phone and advertising it.

I also want a commercial. Beyoncé is going to be the actress modeling and broadcasting the phone. I have an image in my head of her sitting on a couch smiling while she has the Pii phone in her hand. Then, the camera will be adjusted in a way where the audience gets a glance of the phone and all of the apps and features it has to offer. I want the Pharrell song Happy to be playing in the background. Then I want only the instrumentals to be playing while Beyoncé glares into the camera and says, “Everyone loves Pii”.

My project is not a project— it’s a life changing creation. I just wished I thought of this a long time ago. This creation differentiates over others because mines is original. Other creators are so set and fixated on making a “better” phone, whereas I’m focused on giving customers a unique phone. My idea is an innovation in technology. Instead of it being considered a Smartphone, it’ll be considered a Genius phone. This Genius phone will make you feel unstoppable!

My sister is both team Galaxy and IPhone. When I asked her which does she prefer, I was almost positive that she was going to say that she was team IPhone, being that she owns one. She told me that it was hard to decide because each of them offers something different. She said that she likes IPhones because it’s more attractive, it’s weightless, it has Siri, and the emoji’s look better. However, she says she likes Galaxy’s because it has better security (for example, it’s not easily jailbroken), they take better pictures than IPhones, and they have better battery life.

I took everything my sister said into consideration and I responded by saying, “What if there was a way in which both the IPhone and Galaxy came together to make an even greater phone”? She looked at me shocked and said, “That’s not at all possible. How on Earth can you make a phone that has the same features as both an IPhone and a Galaxy? That’s unrealistic Wynter”. I looked at her and said, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way”.

Now, I would like to discuss some of the perks of having a Pii phone. First things first, you get the best of both worlds, which means you’ll have both a Galaxy and an IPhone; it’s water resistant; it has a superb battery life; it’s app friendly, meaning you can download as many apps as you want; it is provided by every phone company (from Verizon to MetroPCS); anti-crack resistant and there’s so much more. Keep in mind, this is just some of the perks. There’s a lot more than the ones I’ve mentioned.

I cannot stretch enough that my Pii idea will be a successful invention. As we all know, some phones have better or more special features than others do. The Pii phone will knock other carriers out of the market, including Galaxy’s and IPhones. When my invention comes into play, I would start off with exclusive offers. For example, I would have a special deal around Christmas time. It’ll be get half off of a Pii and headphones and get a phone case for free. Of course I’d have a catchy quote though. It’s going to go like this: Get half off the whole Pii, half off the filling (headphones), and get the crust for free (phone case).

Pii will definitely be the next big thing. A business proposal has already been drafted outlining my marketing strategy. This invention will come into play by the year of 2018. Just be patient and see. Be on the lookout for your piece of Pii!
