How has media effected us as a society? Is this positive or negative?

As seen in the article of Ravi Somaiya the media had a huge impact because we can see that there is about 1.3 billion people logging on at least monthly. It drives up to 20 percent of traffic to news sites. So, it represents a huge business for who knows how to use it.
Facebook has definitely changed the way on how people consume journalism because they do not read the newspaper itself, but only the news that appears on their Facebook. And the fact is that Facebook select which kind of news the user will might want to read (thanks to an algorithm as stated in the article of Ravi Somaiya). The impact of such thing is that it has an impact on how people will see the world because they are enclosed within their sphere.
About these facts, I would say that it is positive in a way that people can read several articles from different newspaper on a same platform (Facebook) but it is negative in a way that people lose physical interactions by taking news only through Facebook and not anymore outside by buying the newspaper.
According to the second article we can see several things on how the media has affected us as a society.
In a positive aspect, thanks to the media, we are nowadays able to share our information as long as we want to share it and this lead to the fact that a person can become someone famous without having any big resources. I would call this the principle of the “autonomous business” because someone can achieve great things with just a laptop or even a Smartphone.
Media creates new technologies continuously which can be helpful for your health, education, shopping etc.
We communicate better and you can accelerate the process of your career thanks to some tools like LinkedIN and thus find a job.
In a negative aspect, the media and mainly social media can be a source of corruption for young people nowadays. It can lead to several negative aspects like being insulted or the depression just because you don’t have enough “likes” on your Facebook’s posts. And as said at the beginning the notion of being away of physical interactions can lead to an anti-social position.
